Two Dead After Fishing Barge Capsized on Toledo Bend Lake

Sheriff’s deputies and emergency responders swiftly responded to a distress call regarding a boating mishap on Tuesday.

The call, received just before noon, reported a capsized fishing barge in the Pirate’s Cove area of Toledo Bend Lake. Initial reports indicated six individuals were on board during the incident.

Fortunately, four managed to swim to safety, while tragically the other two drowned. The victims’ bodies were later located and retrieved during the rescue operation.

The SPSO commends the efforts of the North Sabine Fire District and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies for their assistance in the search.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
